A Memorial Weekend Hitch-Off

When you first think of Memorial Day, what pops into your head? Flags, soldiers, and outdoor barbecues? Well, this year we spent our Memorial Day weekend at two memorable weddings, with two very unique couples. From a lavish, bohemian style wedding to a simple, country inspired couple, our two days that weekend couldn’t have been more different.

Our boho-chic couple decided to do a tented wedding. It was at Cedar Creek Lodge and fit about 170 guests. The huge arbor was draped in greenery and purple flowers. After walking through the arbor, at the end of the aisle stood a gorgeous metal covered gazebo, with additional drooping diamonds. Our simple and sweet couple took another route and had a traditional ceremony at First Baptist Church in Columbia. Their 200 guests filled the aisles, decorated with pink ribbons. The simplicity made for a quick and heart-felt ceremony.

The themes of both of the weddings were both executed perfectly by their decor! Our first couple had a tented reception as well, with glass table top tables and gold Chiavari chairs. Their centerpieces consisted of tall floral arrangements on gold vases and short floral bouquets with colorful glass bottles.

Our second couple had their reception inside the Reynolds Alumni Center with farm tables and classic rounds. They used Elio Gunmetal chairs along with gold Chiavaris. They chose to have a sweetheart table up on a stage with a light up mini tree, while their guest’s tables consisted of classic white candle cages, a slab of wood, a wine bottle, and a small floral arrangement. They also custom made coasters as a take home gift for their family and friends.

I think we can all agree that we go to weddings to celebrate the couple, but we stay for the cake! Both our brides chose to have a cake, but went in two opposite directions. We saw an amazing 6-tier masterpiece for our bohemian style wedding. Along with jewels and custom artwork, the attention to detail and vivid colors made the cake a sight to see. Our country-lovin’ couple had an elegant single tier white cake, but also chose to have a groom’s cake! They incorporated the country theme into the cake by adding an adorable fondant tractor as the topper! There is nothing more exciting than surprising your husband with a [edible] gift 100% based on him!

As you can see our weekend was filled with creativity, originality, and lots of love. This just proves that no two brides are alike and every couple has their own unique theme that makes them special! No matter where you have your ceremony or what you serve at your wedding, be true to yourselves and do what fits you and your fiancés personality’s the best!
